Who we are?

We come from the fields of knowledge management, communication, work and organizational psychology, social psychology, technology research as well as information and communications technology. We work at LUT University, University of Jyväskylä, Aalto University, and Tampere University in Finland.
"I have been always interested in how diverse individuals and organizations co-create value by building on each other’s’ strengths. In Futuremote I am interested especially in how knowledge workers can collaborate across time and place to co-create knowledge and value effectively. Digital technologies connect people and organizations efficiently yet social processes such as trust are critical for co-creating new knowledge and innovation. In our research we are working in close collaboration with participating companies to build sustainable and productive ways of working and collaborating in the future.”

She is also the Director for Futuremote research consortium.

“My research interests focus on communication technologies and communication processes in groups and organizations. I’m also interested in new forms of organizing, such as global teams and flexible and remote work as well as virtual and physical workspaces. I believe that in the future many face-to-face communication situations at work will be complemented with mediated communication or communication with technology (e.g. chatbots or robots) and that working 9-5 side-by-side with colleagues in the same physical space will not be the norm in many workplaces anymore. However, communication practices, norms and competence should be at the core when considering remote work and working through or with technologies, as technology does not determine the way we work. The affordances of communication technologies can provide new possibilities e.g. for sharing knowledge and networking, but they can also bring in new constraints that we should be aware of.”

In the FutuRemote project, Anu acts as the Co-PI leading a group of researchers focusing on digital communication, workspaces and remote work.

“I am a mobile and multilocational teleworker myself. I love to meet people face-to-face but I also believe that we can learn to do increasingly hybrid work with other people combining flexibly virtual environments with varied physical ones. I have just published a book with some of my colleagues about future of work showing my expectations
My research focuses on organizational innovations, digital work, new ways of working (remote work, mobile and multi-locational work, distributed teams and organizations), collaborative working platforms, knowledge building, and future competencies.”
In this FutuRemote Project my role, with Prof. Binari, is to coordinate Research.

“I'm a user-centered software designer and engineer by training, a humanist at heart. I perceive the modern work life as a mesh of “socio-technical systems” where people’s interactions are shaped and influenced by various collaboration tools. Technology has an important—often TOO important—role in the work tasks we do, and it sets structures and conditions to how we may work.
In the FutuRemote project, I combine solution-centric and critical thinking to help us envision more sustainable collaboration technologies, work processes, and management practices.”

“My research is centered on the social-psychological and organizational dynamics that explain entrepreneurial actions within organizations and the success of organizations' innovation processes. I perceive organizations as incubators of new knowledge, opportunities, and ventures, with employees acting as agents that drive those incubating processes' success and sustainability. “
“In the FutuRemore project, I combine my expertise in qualitative research methods and knowledge in intra-organizational emotional and temporal dynamics to help us understand how technological changes can be best integrated and infused within organizations to drive innovation and ensure resilience .”

“My work is about how technology affects peoples everyday life. I’m interested in different use contexts and users. Digital literacy underpins the topics as understanding how technology affects plays central role in sustainable digital existence. In work context human-technology interaction, especially information ergonomics is one of my key topics.
In FutuRemote project I’m responsible for activation of company collaboration especially advancing innovation and building sustainable research and development schemes with key stakeholders.”

“My research interests include questions around how information and communication technologies and ways of organizing work impact employees’ experiences and wellbeing. Specifically, my work explores how technological advancements shape and change the nature of work, as employees connect, communicate, and coordinate their work through different technologies and in different contexts. In doing so, I seek to contribute knowledge that helps organizations and employees prepare for the future of work.
In the FutuRemote project, I draw from my experience on studying remote work and connectivity behav-iors to help us make sense of the rapid changes that organizations and employees have experiences in their transition to dispersed work practices.”

Ward also holds a position as Assistant Professor in organizational communication at the University of Amsterdam.
“I am a social psychologist by training and my research is mainly grounded on social identity and social norms theories. My research interests include investigating how online relationships, social media interactions, and identity processes in online communication are related to human (problem) behavior and social functioning. In addition, I am interested in the role of social influences and social environments both offline and online in different problem behaviors.
In the FutuRemote project, I bring social psychological perspective and knowledge on analyzing and interpreting the qualitative survey data and help envision how the information gathered can be utilized to advance knowledge work.”

“For the past 10 years, I’ve worked at Aalto Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, studying and innovation and change management in various research endeavors with Finnish industrial and service companies.
I'm fascinated by organizational change processes dealing with re-thinking work practices and innovating with the help of IT. I'm particularly keen on understanding managerial strategies that pro-mote meaningful change at the grassroots level and how organizational members make sense of newly introduced technologies. As such, I see myself as operating in the interface between innovation management, organizational change, and information systems sciences.
In the FutuRemote project, I aspire to understand how people cope with being forced to change their work practices, what they are struggling with, and how new ways of organizing and new technologies, products & services could alleviate arising issues.

”I believe communication is the means of building reality for humans weather in face-to-face interactions or on digital platforms. I’m interested in technology mediated communication in remote work and the role of communication technology in work-life interactions. My doctoral thesis focuses on the tensions and paradoxes in digital work, technology-mediated communication and management of communication technology.
In the FutuRemote project I want to be a part of creating solutions that support collaboration, wellbeing and efficient communication in remote work.”

“ I am a Master of Arts in Languages and Translation Studies at University of Turku. Through my minor studies (Media Studies), I was hired to YLE to work as a reporter-presenter.
I am currently working at LUT University as a project coordinator in multidisciplinary research projects.
I have always been enthusiastic about learning new ways of working by utilizing Digital technologies. I’m not a researcher, but I could describe myself as a heavy user of different kinds of digital tools and platforms. Understanding the latest technologies also plays an essential role in my work as FutuRemote project coordinator.”
