What are we thinking?
Here our researchers and collaborators share their insights on remote work and digital organizing from different viewpoints.
Remote work productivity & Covid-19 pandemia
Productivity in remote work is highly interesting. Earlier research has shown that remote work increases work productivity, but we have little research on remote work productivity in Covid-19 pandemic.
In the short term moving to remote has not improved or lowered productivity perceived by employees. In a longitudinal study, we asked employees how they perceived their productivity in spring and now in fall. It has stayed the same. This is a good result, considering how most of the respondents had little or no experience on working remotely before. Those employees who had experience in remote work perceived higher productivity, work satisfaction and work life bal-ance. This may suggest that they had adjusted to remote work.
I believe that remote work can enhance knowledge work productivity. In order for the fast-developing work technologies to improve employee productivity workplaces need to consider their work processes and train their employees to benefit from the technology.
